About Us

At Treat Me Right, we believe that training should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both you and your dog. We are committed to creating a safe space where all people and all dogs are able to learn and have fun. Treat Me Right uses modern, force-free, positive-reinforcement based methods to help you teach your dog healthy habits and behaviours while strengthening your bond.

Our Mission

Our mission at Treat Me Right is to educate, support, and empower pet parents to understand their dogs behaviour and teach valuable skills to help our furry family members successfully navigate our human world. Treat Me Right strives to create a safe and accessible learning environment for all people and dogs.

Our Methods

At Treat Me Right, we believe that how you teach is just as important as what you teach. That's why we use modern, science-based methods that prioritize your dog’s physical, behavioural and emotional welfare. Our approach centres the LIMA (Least Invasive Minimally Aversive) philosophy and applies the humane hierarchy to behaviour change procedures. Our methods align with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB) position statements on humane dog training. At Treat Me Right, we focus on using highly effective positive reinforcement-based techniques for teaching new behaviours and addressing behaviour challenges, and we never use force, punishment, physical corrections, or aversive tools.

Meet The Team

Owner & Certified Trainer

Claire Blumenthal (she/her) B.Sc. Bio, CPDT-KA, FFCP

Hi there! My name is Claire, I am the owner and founder of Treat Me Right. Over the past 10+ years, I have worked in every corner of the pet care industry. You name it, I’ve done it! While completing a Bachelor of Science in Biology at the University of Guelph, I worked as a veterinary assistant, dog walker, pet sitter, and an animal care attendant at the Guelph Humane Society. After graduating, I continued to pursue my passion for behaviour by working as a dog handler, and later managing a dog daycare, boarding, and pet retail facility.

In 2021, I started my professional training career by studying and certifying as a Certified Professional Dog Trainer - Knowledge Assessed, and in 2022, I began working as a Certified Animal Trainer at the Toronto Humane Society. My extensive experience has given me a unique perspective in the field of dog training, and has inspired me to find solutions that reduce fear, anxiety and stress for dogs and their people across all types of pet care. I currently hold multiple dog training certifications and I continue to pursue further education in animal training and behaviour science, expanding my knowledge and skills so I can better serve you and your dog. I can’t wait to work with you!

Treat Me Right Mascot

Gwendolyn

Gwendolyn, also known as Gwen, Gwenny, Gwenners, Gwenifer, and endless other silly nicknames, is a 5 year old rescue. Claire adopted Gwen in August of 2019, and over the last 4 years, Claire and Gwen have worked through (and are still working on!) several behaviour challenges. Gwen has always been a very sensitive dog, and is nervous around loud noises, other dogs, and some strangers. Gwen has inspired much of Claire’s continuing education in dog training and behaviour, provides endless love and entertainment to all the humans in her life.
